An instant heater heats water as it passes through, without storing it. This saves tank space and avoids storage heat loss, but the wait at the tap still depends on pipe length. We select the model around flow and incoming and required water temperatures, alongside gas and flue provisions.
Why an instant heater
- Heats during a draw without a storage tank
- Avoids heat loss from stored water
- Worth comparing where tank space is limited
- Output is checked against outlets used together
When to take 16 L or 20 L
The available models are 16 L at 30 kW and 20 L at 37 kW. The litre rating refers to water flow, not tank volume. Any stated outlet count needs checking against shower and tap flow and the required temperature rise; outlets draw different amounts, so the larger model is not an automatic choice.
When it is not the right choice
An instant heater heats as you open the tap, so if more outlets run at once than the model covers, the flow weakens — a central system or a boiler fits better there. If you also want home heating, an instant heater does not run radiators. And with no gas on site, a heat pump runs on electricity.

FAQ
Should I take the 16 L or the 20 L?
We compare the flow of outlets used together with each model’s output and the required temperature rise. Bathroom count alone is not enough, and 16 or 20 L is not a tank capacity.
How is it different from a tank heater?
An instant heater heats during a draw; a storage heater keeps hot water ready and reheats it. Instant output depends on flow and temperature rise, while storage performance depends on tank volume and recovery. Both are affected by the pipe distance to the tap.
Is an instant gas heater safe?
The unit and its gas, flue and ventilation provisions must meet the model instructions. Built-in protections matter alongside installation and maintenance by a qualified technician; safety cannot be reduced to one feature.
How is the price decided?
We select a smart heating system sized around your home, not a product off the shelf. Price depends on Capacity (unit output sized to bathrooms and draw-off points) · Consumption (how many hot-water points run at once, and whether it also runs heating) · Purchase timing (the season you buy in — costs are not fixed year-round) · Accessories (safety valve, pressure reducer, circulation pump and controls) · Optional extras (any additions you ask for). After the free assessment, our quote identifies the model, specifications, installation scope and warranty. You get a clear recommendation and know what the cost includes, with installation and support from Aurora.
Already have a boiler or water-heating system?
Safety valves, pressure reducers, circulation pumps and their control panels all get replaced over time — and the safety valve in particular is not something to postpone.
